Pokemon Trainer Update II

I want to be the very best like no one ever was... Now that that song is in your head, have an update of Pokemon Trainer:
I also redesigned my blog. It looks much better than before, me thinks, and it features Altair of Assassin's Creed. ♥

Happy Christmas!

December 2011 TUSAL

It's the last new moon of 2011! After this photo, I capped my jar to start a new one for next year. ♥ I ran out of Zelda posters, so I used a map of Skyrim for my last 2011 TUSAL photo. I've only put in about 100 hours into the game so far so I should reference it somehow on my blog. Cheers!
TUSAL jar contents: Hogwarts Crest, Psylocke, Dark Toon Link, Yoshi's Island Biscornu, Robo + Atropos, Baby Mario Bib, Jill and Vincent Valentine, Oracle of Seasons Link, Donkey Kong, Pan's Shadow, Vegeta, Cubone and Marowak, Nothing is True, Vulpix and Ninetales, Itsuki & Butterflies, Pikachu Pile, Sora & Roxas, Pokemon Trainer
TUSAL backdrop: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Happy Christmas Eve!

A New Start: Pokemon Trainer

It's no secret I am an Abysswolf junkie. Pokemon Trainer is part of his Super Smash Brothers Brawl set of which I've already completed Link, Zelda, Diddy Kong, Dark Toon Link and Donkey Kong. I don't intend to stitch the whole set but it could happen..

The fabric I'm using for this is 28 count Jobelan in Dusty Green/Olive. The fabric is a bit more green than the photo shows. It's winter in Canada; we don't get sunlight anymore.

I'll try to post updates once per week because my blog has been completely dead. I've even missed TUSALs and IHSWs. Sorry, guys!

Sprite Stitch September Swap II

I am about three months late in posting this but here it is. Sprite Stitch hosted another mini swap and my recipient had Kingdom Hearts listed as a favourite game. It was a good excuse to finally stitch something KH related. I made two small stitches which fit into magnets meant for wallet-sized photos. I just took a photo of the fabric as the magnet was just clear plastic. I used Abysswolf sprites because I based the project around the magnets and a lot of in-game sprites don't work well for the size. I made both Sora and Roxas as they are the two main protagonists because I couldn't choose. ♥
The photos are not the greatest, I apologize. I wanted to post what I received as well because it was awesome! Assassin's Creed is my new favourite game series, possibly my favourite of all time at this point. Lord Libidan made a manifesto of Abstergo Industries to go with the Assassin Brotherhood logo I had stitched earlier this year. It was very thoughtful and very clever. I haven't been able to get a good picture of it but he used glow in the dark floss to imitate Eagle Vision. So in the dark, the Assassin logo appears as well as "riotpatch" in Morse Code. Pretty genius. He also made two pins, one of Altair and one of Ezio. Definitely check out his other stuff here. He's great. =]

Pikachu Pile

It feels good to have a finish again. Or one that I can post anyway. I finished another stitch last Friday which I don't believe I can show yet. This is probably the cutest thing ever: Pikachu Pile. For the record, my favourite Pikachu is the little weird one in the bottom right corner. ♥

September 2011 TUSAL

Another TUSAL already and another month of barely posting. Everything I'm working on I can't show yet. I have two more Pikachus to finish on my Pikachu Pile but I want to make sure I finish my swap items first. I also am taking on a side project, stitching a pixel artist's work for a book. While I finally picked up the needle again, I can't show anything yet. I'll iron some bead sprites and spread some Okamiden love soon. ♥
TUSAL jar contents: Hogwarts Crest, Psylocke, Dark Toon Link, Yoshi's Island Biscornu, Robo + Atropos, Baby Mario Bib, Jill and Vincent Valentine, Oracle of Seasons Link, Donkey Kong, Pan's Shadow, Vegeta, Cubone and Marowak, Nothing is True, Vulpix and Ninetales, Itsuki & Butterflies, Pikachu Pile, [Sprite Stitch Swap]
TUSAL backdrop: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

P.S. Another month and a half until Skyward Sword! Of course it comes out only five days after Assassin's Creed: Revelations. *le sigh* I may have to betray Zelda for AC. =P

Six Little Pikachus

Here is my progress over the weekend for the IHSW. I managed to finish three more Pikachus. ♥
This stitches up really fast. I do the outline of one, add the details, then fill in the yellow. It is a nice change from my usual pieces.

A New Start: Pikachu Pile

I'm still alive! Here is the new start I mentioned last post: Pikachu Pile. I'll be working on this for Joysze's International Hermit and Stitch Weekend. I'm stitching on 18 count aida for a change. I've signed up for another Sprite Stitch mini swap. It's exactly 50% completed but I can't post anything until it is received. I think I've found my stitching mojo again, finally.

If anyone knows who the original pixel artist is, please let me know in the comments. I've seen it stitched and beaded a few times but I've never seen it credited.

August 2011 TUSAL

Sorry for the radio silence. I lost my stitching mojo as well as my blogging mojo. I hadn't stitched at all since the Red Yoshis until two days ago when I started something and put it down after a short time. But I finally unpacked my beading supplies. Expect some bead posts shortly of the DS game I am currently finishing. Here is my jar with minimal additions this month; the bit of yellow on top is from my newest start. ♥
TUSAL jar contents: Hogwarts Crest, Psylocke, Dark Toon Link, Yoshi's Island Biscornu, Robo + Atropos, Baby Mario Bib, Jill and Vincent Valentine, Oracle of Seasons Link, Donkey Kong, Pan's Shadow, Vegeta, Cubone and Marowak, Nothing is True, Vulpix and Ninetales, Itsuki & Butterflies

Red Yoshis on a Tatami

I was sitting in my ride today and decided I needed to pimp it out a bit. =] I stitched these little guys today onto perforated plastic. I'm going to sew them together and hang them from the rearview mirror of my red Kia Soul. ♥ At first I was going to edit one of the sprites so it would be the back of Yoshi. But this way, he can be seen from the outside and inside. I don't know if I want to outline him in black or red as of yet.

Draco Dormiens

I have been putting a lot of hours into my Hogwarts Crest of late. Here is an update, my Muggles. I finished half of the banner; Draco Dormiens meaning "sleeping dragon." I think. I only took Latin I, sorry. ♥ I'm so happy JK Rowling is giving us Pottermore. As if I need an excuse to reread the series again. Will I ever get enough or will something replace Harry Potter in my heart? I doubt it...

I really love how vivid the colours are. It's such a simple pattern but very gorgeous in person, if I do say so myself. It doesn't look anything like the raw image in this post which is a bit dark and dreary.
 Skein count: 3 black (#310), 1 topaz (#728), 1 medium topaz (#783)

July 2011 TUSAL [b]

Here is my second July TUSAL entry. Two finishes this month, Vulpix and Ninetales and my giveaway piece. As for the giveaway, I am feeling super guilty. It's taken me so long and it's been finished for over a week! But it's white on black and my camera just refuses to cooperate. I took some blurry iPhone photos as a last resort which I guess I will use to post when Yuuna receives it! It's on the way, honest! =P

In my jar, there's a whole lotta gold. I put my Hogwarts Crest back on my giant scroll and I have been up to some froggin'. I just can't count; Harry Potter makes me too hyper to focus. That is my excuse. ♥
TUSAL jar contents: Hogwarts Crest, Psylocke, Dark Toon Link, Yoshi's Island Biscornu, Robo + Atropos, Baby Mario Bib, Jill and Vincent Valentine, Oracle of Seasons Link, Donkey Kong, Pan's Shadow, Vegeta, Cubone and Marowak, Nothing is True, Vulpix and Ninetales, [giveaway]

TUSAL backdrop: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

This Zelda poster is probably my favourite. I have half a mind to frame it, the art is so beautiful. I made it look like Midna is riding the threads instead of wolf Link. ♥

July 19, 2011

It's Ninetales!

"Its nine tails are said to be imbued with a mystic power. It can live for a thousand years." So says the Pearl Pokedex for #38 Ninetales. With this finish, I am done with my two patches for the Patchwork gym. Bring on the second Generation!

It's Almost Ninetales!

This past weekend was another International Hermit and Stitch Weekend hosted by Joysze of Random Ramblings! I got quite a bit done on my last Pokemon patch. Just have to fill in the remaining tails:
I had wanted to completely finish it but I had to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 a couple times. After seeing it on Friday, I wanted to work on my Hogwarts Crest which has mostly been ignored this year. But I had to finish this and my giveaway project. The reason that isn't done is because I scrapped my original design. I put many hours into stitching it but I just hated it and couldn't possibly give it to someone. =P

July 3, 2011

It's Vulpix!

I watched the entire first season of Game of Thrones and finished Vulpix maybe thirty seconds before the final end credits. Good timing. =]
What the Pearl Pokedex has to say about Vulpix: It controls balls of fire. As it grows, its six tails split from their tips to make more tails. Not as dramatic as Cubone, to be sure.

Who're Those Pokemon?! ♥ [2nd Edition]

Just started on my second patch for the Patchwork Pokemon Gym. A lot less grass this time. Hurray! I decided to keep the same colours as Cubone & Marowak for consistency.
I have been stitching this in the hand so it is wrinkly. This time I used DMC aida which is 100% smoother than Charlescraft or whatever I was using. I think I am going to watch Game of Thrones and stitch up the first Pokemon right away. =]

July 2011 TUSAL [a]

Not a very productive month for me. I did finish my first Patchwork Gym patch and a tiny Assassin's Creed stitching. I did start on my giveaway stitching. It's much larger than I first intended so it's not done yet as I had planned. =[
TUSAL jar contents: Hogwarts Crest, Psylocke, Dark Toon Link, Yoshi's Island Biscornu, Robo + Atropos, Baby Mario Bib, Jill and Vincent Valentine, Oracle of Seasons Link, Donkey Kong, Pan's Shadow, Vegeta, Cubone and Marowak, Nothing is True

Nothing is True. Everything is Permitted.

This past weekend was another International Hermit and Stitch Weekend hosted by Joysze. I can't lie. I really didn't stitch. I played American McGee's Alice on Saturday and started Madness Returns on Sunday. But while I watched some golf with my grandpa for Father's Day, I stitched this up:
I have wanted to stitch the Assassin's Creed logo for awhile. I used some left over linen from Dark Toon Link. I wanted it to look sort of rustic. I should have maybe only used one strand for the backstitch lettering. Oh well. =]

Over 9000 Giveaway Winner!

Giveaway time! I need to thank everyone again for making my blogging experience awesome by following and commenting on my various projects. Twelve peeps entered my draw for a small video game stitching made by me specifically for them. Blackmageheart gets two entries because she pimped out my blog for the giveaway. =]

I used this random number generator to determine the winner:
And said winner is:
She said that Itsuki from Fatal Frame II was her favourite video game character so I will get to work on making a pattern of him right away. It will actually be an interesting challenge for me seeing as how he is not a simple 8 or 16 bit sprite. Yuuna, I wish you a speedy recovery for your broken finger. Get well and back to crafting soon! ^_^ I hope you will like what I come up with! ♥

Giveaways are fun! If all goes well, I would like to do another in the future. Maybe when I get to 100 followers...? =]

June 14, 2011

It's Marowak!

My first Patchwork Gym patch is complete! Number 105 in the Pokedex, Marowak also has issues in his life: "From its birth, this savage Pokemon constantly holds bones. It is skilled in using them as weapons." I love stitching Pokemon but Marowak gave me some trouble. Firstly, his belly was giving me flashbacks of Donkey Kong. Orange shading. -_- Second, I had to frog the grey shading on his skull. I had a completely incorrect colour (a light brown) kitted to that symbol for some reason. My favourite part of this stitch is Marowak's eye; so menacing but pretty. ♥

I kitted up my next Pokemon patch but won't start it quite yet. Tomorrow I will draw a name for my Over 9000 Giveaway and get started on something for the winner. My goal is to have it stitched up, mailed out and received so I can post it for my July 4 blogversary. =]

June 12, 2011

It's Cubone!

Number 104 in the Pokedex, Cubone is one of my favourite Pokemon from the first generation. He's so cute and I always like having a ground type in my party. This sprite is from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. Cubone is a sad little guy according to in-game text: "When it thinks of its dead mother, it cries. Its crying makes the skull it wears rattle hollowly." ='[

Who're Those Pokemon?! ♥ [1st Edition]

This is my first patch for the Patchwork Gym. The torturous part is out of the way, the tedious grass background. There are five different greens here. They are subtly different but make an interesting texture. I might tinker with the colours for the next one so they are more contrasted. This patch has been pretty slow to stitch because the aida I am using is very stiff. I've been spoiled by linens and evenweaves.
I have been stitching this in the hand and I haven't ironed yet; that's why it looks a bit mushy. I'm aiming to post the first completed Pokemon tomorrow. ^_^

June 2011 TUSAL

Another new moon already! Some new colours appear this time around, no more browns and oranges! Some black from Pan's Shadow and some blues from Vegeta. Not too exciting. Look, some Miniblins!
TUSAL jar contents: Hogwarts Crest, Psylocke, Dark Toon Link, Yoshi's Island Biscornu, Robo + Atropos, Baby Mario Bib, Jill and Vincent Valentine, Oracle of Seasons Link, Donkey Kong, Pan's Shadow, Vegeta, Cubone and Marowak

Pan's Shadow Part II

I'm a bit addicted to stitching Pan's Shadow. I finished the regular stitching on the main figure. This fabric is very difficult to photograph. The most subtle change of lighting completely changes the colour. I used a macro lens this time to get it to focus, and the colour is a bit more true to form. The black stitching doesn't help when trying to balance the contrast. It's much easier to photograph than DK was, at least.
I really must put this away for a bit and finish one Pokemon patch before I pick it back up again. I feel like I'm letting the group down. There are 21 completed patches already and I have a tiny bit of grass stitched.

Hey Vegeta, a Giveaway!

Vegeta, what does the scouter say about my total page views?
They're over 9000!

What, 9000? There's no way that can be right! Can it?!

I know this meme is old as hell but seriously the scouter must be broken or something. I just want to thank everyone for reading and commenting on my blog, especially my awesome followers. And I wanted to do it in a sort of geeky way. My blogversary is coming up on July 4 and I want to do a bit of a giveaway for it. If you are interested, leave a comment specifying your favourite video game character. I will draw a name on June 15, 2011 and stitch a little something for the winner based on their above choice. If you mention the giveaway on your blog, let me know in the comments and I will throw in an extra entry for you. I'll let the winner know via the email listed in their profile.

♥ Thank you for supporting my humble video game cross stitch blog. ♥

A New Start: Pan's Shadow

This long International Hermit and Stitch Weekend has inspired me to pick up the needle again and work on something for myself. =] As some of you may recall, I started Pan's Shadow back in February using DMC satin floss. I ended up scrapping the whole thing, mostly because the Cashel linen fabric is springy in its own right. Springy fabric + springy floss = no. This time I am using plain old cotton DMC floss and it is coming along a lot faster. It is odd because I was bored of DK's few colours (16 to be exact) but only one colour is keeping my interest in this case. Maybe because it is a silhouette and I am slowly uncovering an image. So far I have not done any petite stitches which smooth out the lines and add detail.
Hopefully, my posts will become more frequent again. I am currently adjusting to the single life. It should give me some free time now to stitch when I'm not at the gym or playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. =P

Donkey Kong by Abysswolf

Donkey Kong is finally done! All credit goes to Abysswolf for his amazing pixel art that I so love to stitch. ♥ I am pretty happy with this finish and my brother is excited to hang it up on the wall. I still need to get it custom-framed which is something new for me. I will probably take Rozalin and get her framed as well. Honestly, if my finishes don't fit into a readily available frame size, they don't get framed.

I already have another pattern based on his art kitted and ready to go. I do have to knock out the Pokemon patches first, however. There is also another Sprite Stitch challenge for which I may do something small and Assassin's Creed related. With the new Harry Potter film coming out soon, I've been thinking about working on my Hogwarts Crest. This month's International Hermit and Stitch Weekend is happening now and I am working on none of these things. =P I will have an update tomorrow detailing my progress on a new start.

Tetris Attack: Raphael the Raven

The final Tetris Attack piece! I saved one of my favourites for last. In Yoshi's Island, you fight him on the moon. Pretty rad. Then in Paper Mario, he is the leader of a bunch of reformed evil ravens. He is pretty ridiculous. ♥
All done with Tetris Attack now! I will do a big group shot of them all together when I get the chance. I'm still looking for sprite rips of the next set I want to do. Maybe I will do another Eeveelution first.

May 13, 2011

Tetris Attack: Hookbill the Koopa

Here is Hookbill the Koopa! He seems to be feeling the same way I am right now. I am currently in the middle of a move. Stress! Also, DK is finished. Honest. I have to iron him out first before I show him off and get him framed. Tomorrow I will post my final Tetris Attack piece. ♥
"Little Koopa come through for me now! Go forth and rock Yoshi's world!" -Kamek

Donkey Kong Update IX

Oh hai! I'm still alive and finally have another update. This is very last one before he's finished. He's a bit cut off because if I took him off the scroll, he may never get back on. One little foot left!
Now, I invite you to visit the Pokemon Patchwork Gym. It's a blog detailing our massive quilt project. All squares for the first generation have been claimed which is pretty exciting. Hopefully my contribution will show up there soon. ♥

May 2011 TUSAL

Sorry guys, no update on my DK last weekend. I seem to have lost my stitching mojo as it were. I was just playing some Assassin's Creed, collecting flags like a boss when I thought, "Holy crap, it's a new moon!" I nearly, nearly forgot this time. >_>

Here is my May Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long, now with even more reddish browns and oranges:

Donkey Kong Update VIII

Here is another update of Abysswolf's Donkey Kong. Just a little bit more and he's finally finished. DK is kind of boring with so few colours. Also, I have been playing the hell out of Okamiden and Assassin's Creed so I've not been putting much time into stitching. Okamiden is freaking amazing, dare I say, even better than Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks? *hides*
Hopefully next week, he will be my seventh finish of the year. Then I'll start my Cubone patch. It's a lot more colours so it will be less boring. ♥

April 20, 2011

Tetris Attack: Flying Wiggler

I just had an urge to bead something. I finished Flying Wiggler after switching the background colour a few times. Not much to say about this guy. He's an enemy but looks so cute and friendly. I remember running into their non-winged cousins in Super Mario World. The first time I jumped on one and it turned red in anger was pretty scary. -_- Bowser was nothing compared to a Wiggler scorned.
I can't believe I only have two more to do in my Tetris Attack set! It really took me long enough. I already know what I want to bead next. Unfortunately, I haven't come across any sprite rips so I may put a magnifying glass up to my DSi screen. ♥

Video Games Live

Video Games Live was an awesome show! Cosplay and geekery everywhere! It was great to geek out with other gamers in real life for once. Since the beginning of the show, all I could think about was cross stitching the logo. It was actually making me a little bit crazy. I see pixels and must stitch them.

For those not in the know, VGL is a concert wherein an orchestra, choir and Tommy Tallarico play video game music against the back drop of game footage. There is actually quite a bit of audience participation which adds to the fun. They played a lot of great music from Assassin's Creed II, Shadow of the Collosus, Castlevania, Final Fantasy VII and God of War. There was definitely not enough Zelda! Super Mario Galaxy would be an obvious choice but nope! They did do some Chrono Trigger but didn't use visuals for it. I'm honestly not complaining; I did love it. They actually have a huge repertoire and obviously can not play everything. I will definitely go again to see what else they have arranged. My favourite track of the night would have to be Assassin's Creed II where they projected a cutscene on screen and played along live.
It was a great show and I recommend it to anyone who likes games or likes music in general. My wishlist for next time would be to hear more Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Okami, Final Fantasy X and XII, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy and Donkey Kong Country 2 (I can dream). ♥

April 17, 2011

Donkey Kong Update VII

Honestly, everyone in Calgary must be stitching Donkey Kong because I had to go to three different Michaels stores to find DMC221. -_-

I'm ending my IHSW now with most of DK's right arm finished. He is a little bit over 12" wide. Just his one hand and legs remain! Here he is after about six hours of stitching:
I'm off to watch Scream 4 and then Video Games Live! I'm really excited for it. Music adds so much to games for me. Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country 2, Castlevania and Silent Hill tracks, among many others, are always in my head and fuel my addiction to the gameplay. My latest favourite soundtrack was for Nier on the XBOX360. Just beautiful. ♥ I really hope they play something by David Wise but it may be a long shot. I may do a little review tomorrow. =]

April 16, 2011

Donkey Kong Update VI

It's another International Hermit and Stitch Weekend! I did not get much done on DK this week, just his abdomen and his right shoulder. I have dedicated all day today for stitching him, however. First I have to make a Michaels run as I am out of two of the colours for his fur. >_> Here is what he looks like before IHSW:
I'll update Sunday afternoon before I go see Video Games Live! ♥

Donkey Kong Update V

This my fourth week of working on Donkey Kong. I managed to finish his ballin' very dark melon (DMC 3801) tie and pectoral muscles. =P I think I can safely say he is about half way done. Click for a larger image:
Next, I will stitch his right arm. I don't think I will be able to finish it in one week as his arms are freaking huge. I was just comparing my Link, Zelda, Diddy Kong and Pikachu to DK here. They are so tiny compared to him. =]

April 3, 2011

April 2011 TUSAL

It's another new moon already. March was pretty slow for me. I semi-finished Oracle of Seasons Link. I now know I have to fill in the white background. I am, of course, dreading that and putting it off for now. The only other stitching last month was on Donkey Kong. The top of my TUSAL jar consists of reddish browns, oranges and peaches.

Donkey Kong Update IV

High five! I managed to finish DK's left arm this week. I feel like I barely make progress on this guy until I compare him to the previous week's update. I can't lie, I am finding him a bit boring because he is so few colours. I'm anxious to start a Pokemon patch, especially when I just caught a Marowak in White. =P Click for a larger image:
I will stitch his tie next so I can use some more varied colours. Diddy Kong was more fun to stitch probably because he was wearing a shirt and a hat. He was much more varied than naked DK. ♥

March 27, 2011

Donkey Kong Update III

I was supposed to post an update yesterday but to be honest, I did not stitch all week. The only progress was made on Friday and Saturday. I started on DK's left arm and hope to have it finished by next week. =]
I have kitted up my two Pokemon patches and I'll work on Cubone/Marowak during downtime at work. My focus will still be on DK for the majority of my time.

March 25, 2011

Sprite Stitch for Japan Pokemon Project

So the Sprite Stitch forum is at it again, unofficially this time. We want to make a quilt/scrapbook for each first generation Pokemon with proceeds from an auction or sale going to Japan's relief efforts. ♥ Nothing is finalized yet but some are already stitching! I wanted to post my patterns here because I'm excited about the project. The backgrounds may change but the sprites should remain the same. I have two patches designed so far but may take on more if needed. The squares will be 70x70 stitches on 14 count aida.
My first patch will be #104 and #105, Cubone and Marowak. I grabbed these guys right away, they're so cute. =] Then I remembered adorable #37, Vulpix, and regal #38, Ninetales. As soon as my designs are deemed sufficient, I'll begin stitching Cubone and Marowak. ♥

ETA: These will be the official ones now. We're sticking to only sky, water and grass for backgrounds. A little boring but oh well!

March 21, 2011

Donkey Kong Update II

Here is the result of my International Hermit and Stitch Weekend. I think I stitched less this weekend than normal. *le sigh* I wanted to get his whole head finished but this was as far as I got with two hours on Saturday and three on Sunday.
I'll have another DK update on Saturday. I have a couple of special patterns to make in the meantime...
